Woman airlifted to hospital after crash

A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital after her car and a lorry crashed into each other.

The accident happened yesterday at about 4.30pm in Halifax Road at the junction with Staincliffe Hall Road.

Police said after the collision the Ford Mondeo was shunted along the road by the articulated lorry.

The driver of the car, a 51-year-old woman from Dewsbury, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary at 5.50pm with serious injuries. She is in a critical condition.

The accident happened in an area controlled by temporary traffic lights.

The lorry had been travelling along Halifax Road from Heckmondwike, towards Dewsbury, and the Mondeo was crossing Halifax Road.
