Kirklees College has launched the fourth annual Young Chef of the Year competition.
The aim of the competition is to find aspiring young chefs and provide them with guidance and encouragement in their chosen career.
It is open to all students in years nine to 11 and the 2017 competition has a “dessert and sweet sauce” theme to it.
The competition’s previous winners Nathan Redfearn (2014), Iman Dar (2015) and Rachel Rushworth (2016) enjoyed taking part in the competition and found it inspired them towards a career in the industry.
Nathan said: “At the Young Chef Competition I discovered what the college was about and that I wanted to be a student at Kirklees College.”
He is now studying a Level 3 BTEC in Hospitality at the college and works at Black Cat Bistro in Holmfirth.
For anyone interested in catering and hospitality, Kirklees College offers a number of opportunities for students to develop their culinary skills.
As well as full-time courses, part-time courses and apprenticeships the college also runs a very popular Junior Chef Academy course, for young people aged ten to 16 which teaches them about dishes and recipes from all around the world that can be replicated at home.
