Westborough High School will take part in Wear it Yellow Day on Thursday July 3, when schools, businesses and residents across Yorkshire will wear an item of yellow clothing and donate £1 to the charity.

Westborough has a close connection with Yorkshire Air Ambulance after it helped to save one of its pupils from drowning on a school trip.

Extended learning co-ordinator Gayna Goalby said it was a particularly hot day when the pupil, who was unable to swim, jumped into the deep end of an outdoor pool and became distressed.

“When the lifeguard got him out he didn’t seem to be breathing.

“Without the air ambulance he might not have made it.

“They just turned up and did their job,” she said.

Gayna said the school took pride in its charity work and said if everyone, staff and pupils, took part in Wear it Yellow day they could raise up to £1,500.

She said it was important to support local causes and that it was easy to see what the money is used for.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance costs £9,900 a day to run.

The school will also host a bake sale on the day and with further events planned from its sports department.
