We’re small but cutting edge!

A HIGH-TECH firm has welcomed a VIP delegation from Portugal.

Caldervale Technology showed representatives from Portuguese gas and water companies around its factory in the Bretton Street Enterprise Centre.

The Savile Town firm makes tools that are used to put together gas and water pipe systems, and has been working with Portuguese companies for around five years.

Chairman Paul Myers said: “Our distributor in Portugal invited this delegation, because there is still a lot of infrastructure work to be done there.

“They came to get updated on modern technology. They want as much cutting-edge technology as they can get.”

The delegation also met the Mayor of Kirklees Coun Eric Firth.

“This company, as small as it may be, is at the cutting edge of this technology,” he said.

“For a small company, it’s something that we should be really proud of.

“It’s not all doom and gloom in Dewsbury because we have got companies like this that are leaders in the industry and it’s something that we should trumpet, loudly and clearly.”

Alexandre Lazera, Caldervale Technology’s Portuguese distributor, said: “We are very happy with Caldervale Technology.

“They make good quality products and are like friends to us.”

The company was set up in 1984, and now does most of its business overseas, providing tools for projects in Russia, Germany and South America.

Mr Myers said: “We make very simple products for countries that are in need of infrastructure, and they want stuff that is cutting edge. We have adapted to new technology very quickly.”
