We’re backing the Belles!

But the under eights Battyeford Belles squad have spare shirts waiting to be filled and are eager for new members to join them.

The English Premier League and Nike Sports UK help out start-up teams and have provided the new under eights girls with 12 kits.

And the Belles are now looking for more girls aged six, seven and eight to join the team this season and train with them on a weekly basis.

Head of Girls Football, Chris Hoyle, plans to enter the youngsters into the West Riding Girls Football League where they will play in friendly matches and take part in monthly indoor gala events.

He said: “At Battyeford, we introduce young people to sport in a no pressure environment where they can get a taste for different activities, like football, and play for fun.

“We want to get more youngsters involved in sport and leisure, keeping them active and motivated.

“We also provide a pathway to getting involved in coaching and the running of the club, through the Junior Leadership Program, which ties in with some of the qualifications they take at school.”

Battyeford Belles, part of Battyeford Sporting Club, are also partners of the West Riding County FA Women and Girls Development Program and have links with FA Player Development Centres and Girls Centres of Excellence.

The Mirfield Reporter is supporting the club and the Belles teams, including the under eights in their bid to find new members.

“Anything that encourages young people to take part in sport should be encouraged. A lot of hard work goes into running amateur youth teams, and they deserve every bit of support they get.

“These young girls could be the stars of the future in football.”

The girls’ training sessions will run from 6pm-7pm every Friday at West Mills Playing Fields, Huddersfield Road or at Mirfield Free Grammar School pitches during the winter.
