Catherine Evans, who is from Chickenley but now lives in Wakefield, was inspired by the deaths of her mother and sister to help people affected by terminal illness.

And after teaming up with friend Vikki Sagar, they are using their skills in the wedding industry to organise and fund weddings for couples affected through A Magical Wedding Wish.

On Sunday family and friends of Catherine, her sister Sharon Bean and mum Diane Bean will walk from the site of the former Whistler pub in Leeds Road, now Tesco, to the Tandem in Huddersfield. Sharon had worked in both pubs before her death from a heart condition aged 30, five years ago. Diane, of Ossett Lane, died 10 years ago this November after a battle with bowel cancer.

Catherine, 39, said: “With both anniversaries coming up, I wanted to do something to help. Vikki and were talking one day about how she had done some work for a couple where the man was ill, and had felt guilty taking the money – that’s how we came up with the idea.

“Organising a wedding can be so stressful and couples who are battling illness have enough to worry about. We aim to give them their dream day full of happy memories they can cherish.”

The ladies have already organised their first wedding for a couple in Mansfield.
