Wartime life brought to life

Gas masks, uniforms and even an old gramophone helped bring the realities of life on the home front during World War 2 to Crossley Fields pupils.

Darren Birchall, an expert in the war, visited the school last month taking with him a range of artefacts to show year 4 pupils, who have been learning about the period since Christmas.

The children showed Mr Birchall the school’s Anderson shelter, that was specially built in the grounds.

Year 4 leader Hannah Lord said: “He was really impressed, and the children had a fantastic real life learning experience using authentic artefacts from the period of history.

“They’ve really enjoyed the entire project, taking on extra homework and research.”
