Volunteer at award-winning site

OAKWELL Hall County Park is calling on more people to volunteer in its award-winning grounds.

The Birstall park puts much of the success of six Green Flag awards and Yorkshire in Bloom Silver Gilt award down to its volunteers, who help maintain the 110-acre site.

Senior Museum officer Eric Brown said: “Without our volunteers, Oakwell would not be the fantastic place it is. They turn out week after week in all weathers to support our small team of dedicated park rangers and have formed a fantastic partnership that has transformed this park into the wonderful green oasis it is.”

An its not just Oakwell that gains from the volunteers.

Thomas Mair has been helping at the Birstall park for over a year, and said it’s done him more good than all the physiotherapy and medication in the world.
