The event’s organiser said 500 people were outside Dewsbury Town Hall on Sunday campaigning against Isreal’s military action in Gaza.

Samira Naz, from Batley, said: “It was great that there was such a big turnout. We were expecting 200-300 people, but about 500 people came.”

“I saw people getting killed and it was disgusting.

“I looked at what was happening there and there was no need for any of it.”

Coun Masood Ahmed (Lab, Dewsbury South) and Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Dewsbury, Paula Sherriff, spoke at the rally.

She said: “Let’s face it we are in the midst of a humanitarian crisis.

“Everyone deserves peace no matter where in the world you live.”
