Video: Council videos highlight work of Care Navigators

And the real stories of people using the service have been featured in a series of videos to publicise the scheme.

Kirklees Council Care Navigators help adults with social care needs, or people who care for someone with social care needs. They can help find free or alternative support options, and care for people who have a budget to spend.

A Care Navigator will work with people to find health and social care support in their local community. They have a wealth of local knowledge about the groups, businesses and suppliers that can give a more personal service. They will help people to build a support package that can be innovative and is tailored to people’s needs.

In this video, Natalie tells how a Care Navigator helped her when she moved from York to Dewsbury.

Coun Molly Walton, Kirklees Cabinet Member for Health, Well Being and Communities, said: “When we have had good health and then begin to lose it, we don’t know what help is available or where to find it, so many people struggle on quite unnecessarily. By chatting about these problems with one of the Care Navigators, they can suggest what will be most helpful for you and then organise it for you.

“Care Navigators are a new but already invaluable service from the council. Support can come in many forms - from health care providers, through sports and leisure facilities or from voluntary and community groups. The Care Navigators will also look at what equipment such as Carephones and fall detectors can offer as well as explore places of interest, events and attractions, night life and restaurants or museums and art galleries which might be of help.”
