At Heckmondwike Grammar School, seven pupils achieved five A* or A grades.

Almost 90 per cent of results were at C or above, and 72 per cent were A*, A or B.

Ciar Donnelly, Emma Harris and Robert Woodyet achieved five A*s each.

Ciar said: “It’s been hard work! I am going to study linguistics at Queen’s College, Cambridge.”

Emma Harris is going to study maths in York.

She said: “I have been doing four hours of revision a night.”

Amina Khan, who achieved five A*s and As, said: “I am going to Newcastle to study medicine. I have another five or six years of study ahead of me but I’m really looking forward to it!”

Headteacher Mike Cook said: “We are delighted with these superb results, which reflect the hard work and dedication of our students and staff, and which will enable the students to take their next steps with confidence.”

Mirfield Free Grammar School was celebrating a 100 per cent pass rate, with improved results year-on-year.

Principal Lorraine Barker said she was delighted with the results.

Head of sixth form, Vicky Chambers said: “We are very proud of the academic success demonstrated by all our students. These excellent results demonstrate the combined effort of students and their teachers with the support of their families. My warmest congratulations to all of them.”

Pupil Lee Clarke said he was ecstatic with two A*s, an A and two Bs.

He said: “I can’t believe it. A Levels has been the hardest work I’ve ever done. I’ve made quite a lot of sacrifices but it’s paid off in the end.”

Lee said he wanted to go to Leeds University to study medicine.

Pupil Francesca Lobb was celebrating her top grades in design and technology, art and theatre and said she planned to go to Manchester Met to study 3D design.

Batley Girls High School was celebrating its best ever results, with 100 per cent of students passing all their exams.

Headteacher Jackie Eames said: “Results  like  these  underline just  how  special  our  sixth  form  provision. 

“A huge thank you to the students, their families and  our staff for continuing to prove that Batley Girls are ‘simply the best!”

Safiyyah Fadia achieved an A* and three As. She said: “I am in shock but I’m really pleased as well.”

Zeenat Azad said: “I am taking counselling studies at Huddersfield Uni. I’m speechless. I had to go the extra mile but it’s been worth it.”

Marie Goodfellow, assistant headteacher at St John Fisher school in Dewsbury, said: “We are delighted with the results.

“The students are happy because they all got into their first choices. They have worked hard and got the results they deserved.”

Joe McDermott said: “I am pleased with my results – I’m taking a year out and then studying journalism at Salford.”

Liam Cousins said: “I’m going to York St John to do business and IT. I got what I expected so I’m very happy.”

Batley Grammar was also celebrating - with a 99.1 per cent pass rate. Head Brigid Tullie said: “Our students come from diverse backgrounds and the grades they have achieved not only reflect their hard work and determination but also the support and encouragement from our dedicated team of high qualified staff.”
