Vandals trash secret garden

VANDALS have trashed a park’s secret garden to the dismay of volunteers who work there.

Fencing and trellises in the walled garden of Dewsbury’s Crow Nest Park were ripped out of the ground last night and piled up to make a fire.

A water butt which had been chained up following previous vandalism was also thrown onto the fire.

The award-winning garden was completely overgrown when the Friends of Crow Nest Park started work on it in 2004.

Meanwhile, the lock of the main gate to the park in Heckmondwike Road was smashed off last night.

A car was driven inside and set alight.
