Vandals start fire at deli and cause £5,000 of damage

A FIRE started by vandals outside a Mirfield Deli has left its owners with a £5,000 bill. And it could have wrecked expansion plans for the thriving Brook’s Delicatessen.

Owner Amanda Brook discovered the damage when she got to work on Tuesday morning.

“The fire brigade and police think it was caused by someone being mischievous,” she said.“It’s annoying that this is fun to someone – it’s mindless.”

The fire at the deli in Huddersfield Road broke out at around 2am on Tuesday.

A firefighter who lives nearby tried to put it out before the fire brigade and police arrived. “We’re very lucky it was put out when it was,” Miss Brook said.
