Detectives investigating a serious sexual assault in an area of parkland in Dewsbury on Wednesday have issued a description of a suspect.

The 46-year-old victim was attacked and robbed at around 9am on February 19 in a park on Caulms Wood Road, off Leeds Road.

She is being supported by specialist officers as investigations take place.

Det Supt Scott Wood said: “We are currently investigating reports of a serious sexual assault on a 46 year-old-woman which occurred at around 9am this morning in a park on Caulms Wood Road in Dewsbury town centre.

“During the course of the incident, we believe money was taken from the victim and specialist officers are currently supporting her.

“CCTV enquiries are taking place in the area and we are also conducting forensic enquiries.”

Police say the suspect is white, in his late 20s to early thirties, around 5’10” tall, of thin build and was wearing a black water-proof coat.

They want anyone who was in the park on Wednesday and saw what happened, or recognise the description of the man from previous visits to the park, to get in touch.

Det Insp Andy Parr added: “There is potential that the suspect is local to the area and might have used the locality before. We would ask people to think ‘were you there at a similar time on another day and saw anybody asking suspiciously’?”
