Update: Two men in court accused of attempted murder after Cleckheaton attack

Two men accused of an attempted murder in Cleckheaton have appeared in court.

Douglas Ward and Benjamin Edward James stand accused of wounding with intent and the attempted murder of a man in an office supplies business at Cleckheaton Mills last Thursday afternoon.

Ward, 18, of Aspell Common, Leigh, and James, 55, of Worcester Drive, Middleton, appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning.

Both were remanded into custody until their next hearing at Leeds Crown Court on Friday.

The 57-year-old victim suffered serious head injuries and is recovering at Leeds General Infirmary.

A police spokesman said his condition was now stable.

Meanwhile, officers are asking anyone who witnessed the attack in the business complex in Bradford Road at 2.55pm to come forward.

They also want to speak to anyone who saw two Mitsubishi 4x4s in the area between 2.45pm and 3.15pm.
