Update: Toddler and man stable after M1 smash

A man and a toddler are both stable after a smash on the M1 yesterday (Friday).

Two cars collided on the northbound carriageway between junction 42 at Lofthouse and junction 43 at Belle Isle just after 2pm.

Firefighters had to free a 37-year-old man from Wakefield from a black Ford Fiesta. A two-year-old girl was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

Both are now in a stable condition, a police spokesman said.

The northbound carriageway was closed for a short time but was fully reopened yesterday evening.
