UPDATE: Ferrybridge Power Station fire causing traffic disruption

The fire at Ferrybridge Power Station is causing traffic disruption across the M1 and M62.

Smoke is blowing across the M62 in both directions between junction 32 (Pontefract) and junction 33 (Ferrybridge Services) and on the A1 between junction 42 (Selby Fork) and junction 41 (M62). Stranglands Lane, Knottingley, where the power station is located, is closed.

Police are advising motorists to take care.

Insp Helen Brear, from West Yorkshire Police, said: “The fire service is currently dealing with the situation. Strangland Lane, Knottingley, is closed but at the moment neither the M62 or A1 are. Motorists are, however, advised to exercise caution on these roads and we will be continually monitoring the situation to see if any other roads need to be shut.”
