Two in court after Birkenshaw Co-op burglary

Police were called to the Co-op in Bradford Road at 12.45am after a witnesses spotted the duo drive off in a blue Audi A4.

Det Insp Andy Leonard, of Kirklees CID, said: “Amazingly some of the roads traffic policing unit spotted the car. They followed it on Tong Street in Bradford.

“The car was abandoned and two men were arrested.”
On Monday, two Bradford men appeared before Kirklees Magistrates charged with stealing items worth £1,652 from the shop.

Joseph Whittingham, 25, of Elderwood Gardens, appeared alongside Daniel Gallagher, 25, of Walker Avenue, who faces an additional change of dangerous driving.

The pair were granted conditional bail until their next hearing at Leeds Crown Court on March 31.
