Two arrested after police helicopter joins search in Dewsbury

Two suspected thieves were found hiding in bins after a police search in Dewsbury this morning (Tuesday).

Officers were called just after 7am to reports of a van theft in the Shaw Cross area.

Several police cars, motorbikes and the police helicopter joined the hunt for the men, who abandoned the van and ran off.

They were found hiding in bins in Sands Lane and arrested.

@NPAS_CarrGate, the official Twitter account of West Yorkshire’s police helicopter, told its followers: “0835hrs 31/12. Dewsbury. Vehicle pursuit, decamp prior to our arrival. 2 located hiding in bins. Good teamwork @WYPDogs @WYP_RPU”

A police spokeswoman said the two men had been arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owners consent and were still in custody.

The van has been returned to its owners.
