Tutors on strike

PARTS of Kirklees College closed yesterday when staff took part in a national strike over pensions.

Changes could mean increasing the retirement age, upping staff pension contributions and ending the link between pensions and final salaries.

University and College Union boss Sally Hunt said: “Staff are sick to the back teeth of being told that their pay and pensions need to be cut to pay for an economic crisis created by others.” Kirklees College Principal Chris Sadler said the college had taken measures to limit the impact of the strike.

Staff at Huddersfield University also took part in the strike.
