Tributes to family man after accident

Simon Brook died in hospital on Sunday after getting trapped in machinery at Gwyn Davies Recycling early last Friday.

Police said the 50-year-old, who was trapped by his legs, had to be rescued by firefighters who were called to the Bradford Road site just after 6.30am.

He was taken to Pinderfields Hospital and later transferred to Leeds General Infirmary, but died on Sunday evening.

In a statement, his family said: “Simon will be remembered with great love and laughter by all his family and many friends.”

Flowers and touching tributes have also been tied to the gates of the recycling plant.

A message left by one of his sons said: “Gunna miss you so much Daddy, you would do anything for anyone. Love you so much.”

Another family tribute said: “Dad, you were our inspiration. You were an amazing husband, dad, brother, son and grandad. I am so proud to be your son. Will miss you so much it hurts. We love you always.”

Other tributes described Mr Brook, of Dewsbury Moor, as ‘a legend’ and ‘a top bloke’.

Plant owners Gwyn Davies McTiffin Limited said: “We are all shocked and deeply saddened by this tragedy in which Simon lost his life. He was a well regarded member of our staff at Batley and his loss has deeply affected all of us who worked with him.

“Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies are with Simon’s family at this difficult time.

“We are working with the police and the Health and Safety Executive and co-operating fully with their investigations to find out and understand how this tragic accident occurred.”

The police and the Health and Safety Executive are currently investigating.
