Travellers cost council £13,000 in the last year

They left car parks at the train station and Cliffe Street on July 10 and moved to Hightown.

But on Thursday, they moved back to Dewsbury, setting up camp on Sands Lane playing fields.

Kirklees Council has confirmed that it has had to spend at least £13,000 on having travellers evicted from its land in the last year.

It has pursued legal action on 13 occasions since July last year, at a cost of £1,000-£1,250 each time.

The council submitted an application to have the 20 caravans removed from Sands Lane yesterday.
