Safety warning after derelict building fire in Liversedge

The derelict former residential home on Strawberry Bank, Millbridge, which could be sold at auction today, was set on fire at around 7pm.

Two appliances from Cleckheaton were mobilised and used two hose reels to extinguish it.

And regardless of whether it is sold today, watch commander Andy Greenwood said the building needs to be boarded up or demolished before somebody get seriously hurt.

“It’s quite unsafe at the moment because there have been several fires in it recently. There are holes in the floor and kids could fall straight through to the basement,” he said. “Therefore it would be good if it gets sold because it will be pulled down or boarded up.”

Firefighters used two hose reels to extinguish the fire - the cause of which is under investigation.

Nobody was injured and crews were there for around an hour.
