There were fears again for The Ship Inn which was shut for seven months last year after floodwater engulfed the pub and smashed down a stone wall on the roadside.

Last February Storm Ciara wreaked havoc in Mirfield forcing The Ship to be abandoned.

Work to dry out and restore the pub took months and it only re-opened at the end of October. It was only open for a matter of days before it had to close again due to the national Covid-19 lockdown in November.

The pub has been hit by flooding almost every year for the last decade or so.

People in flood-risk parts of Mirfield were advised to put flood defences in place.
