Here's where new electric car charging points will be installed in Dewsbury, Mirfield and Birstall

As part of the plan the Council's Climate Emergency and Air Quality Action Plan £500K of external funding from the Office of Low Emission Vehicles grant through the West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan was secured.

This funding will deliver 17 rapid charge points for public use in Kirklees. The charging points will include free electricity for electric vehicle users until October 2021.

Karl Battersby Strategic Directors Economy & Infrastructure said: “These seven charging points will be part of an initial 88 strong West Yorkshire network.

"As this particular scheme is for a limited number of sites, we prioritised those that are strategically located in town centres and outlying areas to provide accessible and well distributed coverage.

"The selected sites also have enough available space and power supply to support the rapid charging points. We will be looking to secure more funding in the future to implement further initiatives that help remove the barriers for people looking to swap to electric vehicles.

"The charging points are part of our wider response to the Climate Emergency which includes adding significantly more green vehicles to the council fleet, planting more trees, making sure we assess the environmental impact of all council decisions, and increasing our recycling rate.

"A more detailed and ambitious programme and action plan will be released in 2020 to set out how Kirklees can become carbon neutral by 2038.”

Kirklees Council is now installing the first seven of these electric vehicle charging points as part of their plan to tackle climate change and improve air quality in Kirklees, and to make the borough carbon neutral by 2038.

Station Road Car Park Mirfield

Dewsbury Railway Station, Dewsbury

Low Lane Car Park, Birstall

St Johns, Cleckheaton

Oldgate Huddersfield Town Centre
