Tots sign up for Dewsbury Moor rugby sessions

They might be a long way off scrums and line-outs but these mini rugby players are already looking like stars of the future.

For the last three weeks, rugby training sessions for tots have been taking place in Dewsbury Moor.

The scheme was the brainchild of the SET3 community group and local parents looking for a way to get little ones into sport.

Taster sessions have had around 20 children and they will be running for three more weeks at Westmoor Community Sports Hall.

Shane Hussain from SET3 said: “I think it’s good there’s something for the younger ones. It’s something completely different.”

The project was funded through Dewsbury Moor Big Local Partnership’s Quick Wins scheme for new community ventures.

The Partnership is the organisation responsible for spending the £1m of Lottery money the area was allocated in 2010.

Given the popularity of the tots rugby sessions, the plan now is to set it up it on a permanent basis.

The next taster takes place on Monday at the sports hall in Church Lane, 4pm-5pm.
