One of Europe’s top street theatre companies, Theater Titanick, will travel from Münster in Germany with their impressive show, which has toured around the world, the Reporter can exclusively reveal.

Firebirds will form the cornerstone of the Spirit event on Saturday March 16, which Kirklees Council said will be the biggest and best yet.

In the show, the fire-spraying mighty flying machines will be piloted by extravagant daredevils fighting to get their contraptions off the ground first in a fearsome competition.

Audiences can expect fire effects and explosions as the pilots deliberately sabotage each other in the attempt to reach the sky first.

Since 2008, Spirit has gained a reputation for bringing world-class performers to the town.

Spirit will be Theater Titanick’s first visit to Kirklees but the show has wowed audiences around the world including Edinburgh, Chile, Portugal, France and Spain.

Coun Jean Calvert, cabinet member for health, well being and communities, said: “Each year Spirit grows bigger and better. It’s a wonderful family event, featuring internationally renowned theatre companies. I’m delighted that we can add Dewsbury to the remarkable list of places to have hosted Theater Titanick and their Firebirds show.

“This year’s Spirit looks fantastic, it’s always great to see big performances like this in the centre of Dewsbury – showing off our wonderful buildings and creating a vibrant atmosphere.

“Spirit is a free event so whether you’re an avid fan of street theatre or never seen a show like this before, come down with friends and family and make the most of it.”

Firebirds will start on Market Place at 7.30pm and last around an hour, before culminating in front of the Town Hall.
