Its general fund opened to applications from voluntary and community groups as well as small charities this week.

Reporter Series editor Hannah Ridgeway said: “Grants given by One Community help people in our area make a difference to others in their neighbourhoods, whether it’s by contributing to room rental for a luncheon club or sports equipment for a junior football team.

“It’s the very reason we chose to the foundation as one of our charities and I’d urge as may voluntary groups in north Kirklees as possible to make an application.”

Non-profit groups can apply for up to £500 from the general fund and two others until May 26.
