Thornhill One Stop store can sell booze from 6am

A NEW shop has been given permission to sell alcohol from 6am-11pm every day, despite objections from local residents.

The One Stop store opened in Edge Top Road, Thornhill, on Saturday after its hours were approved by Kirklees Council’s licensing panel on Friday.

But Stuart Hartley, who lives in nearby Foxroyd Lane, said: “You wouldn’t want a shop opening at 6am on a Sunday, and during the week you’ll be getting deliveries at that time.”

The shop, which is owned by Tesco, has submitted separate planning applications for a new shop front, illuminated signs and a cash machine.

But even though these applications have not yet been approved, Mr Hartley said the changes had already been made.

A council spokeswoman said the council could not comment until a decision had been made on the applications.

A One Stop spokeswoman said the firm had applied for planning permission and the matter was being dealt with.
