Thornhill man locked up for sex assault on 12-year-old girl

A THORNHILL man has been jailed for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in York.

Craig Ions was found guilty on July 6 of assault by touching at Leeds Crown Court.

He was sentenced to 18 months in prison at the same court last Thursday.

The 24-year-old, of Smithy Walk, must also sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Det Con Tracey Lumb, of North Yorkshire Police’s protecting vulnerable person’s unit, said the victim – who is now 13 – had had the justice she deserved and praised her bravery in telling someone what had happened.

She said: “Craig Ions not only subjected his victim to a disgusting sexual assault but also put her through the anguish of a crown court trial by not admitting his guilt.

“Ions’ sentence means he now has plenty of time to reflect on his vile behaviour and how it has impacted on an innocent young girl.

“I hope the victim and her family can now put this behind them and get on with their lives knowing that Ions is in prison where he belongs.”

Anyone who needs to report a sexual assault can contact West Yorkshire Police on 101.
