Tesco abandons new Cleckheaton store plans

Tesco has told the Spenborough Guardian it has dropped plans to build a replacement supermarket in Cleckheaton, despite permission for the new build being granted by Kirklees Council last year.

The news comes after Tesco last month announced a fall in profits and that it would be ditching more than 100 new stores across the UK.

A spokeswoman for Tesco added: “We appreciate that some local people will be disappointed but our store in Cleckheaton remains very popular with customers and we remain proud to serve the local community.”
