Teeing up for coffee mornings

A teenager fighting a rare form of cancer has endorsed a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan’s Cancer Trust.

Ella Crann, of Moat Hill, Birstall, was diagnosed with stage four rhabdomyosarcoma in May and is undergoing week 17 of chemotherapy.

The primary tumour in her cheek has shrunk by 50 per cent and Ella has now passed all her GCSEs – some of which were taken in hospital – and a BTEC with distinction. She wants to become an oncology nurse.

Auntie Emma Turnbull said: “We couldn’t believe she was doing them. If she didn’t want to, we weren’t going to push her.

“She’s doing really well. She’s feeling so much better.”

Events for Macmillans’ World’s Biggest Coffee Morning – offcically on September 26 – will be held across the district.

Ella’s morning will be at St Saviour’s Church, Brownhill, on Wednesday September 24 from 11am to 1pm.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees will attend an event Saville Court in Ravensthorpe on September 25.

On Friday September 26, the Thirsty Man in Mirfield will sell loombands and have a sweepstake from 9.30am. Batley Health Centre will be selling coffee from 9am to noon.

Joking Around Fancy Dress shop in Dewsbury will host an event from 10am and All Saints’ Church, Roberttown, between 10am and noon. Twenty pence from every cup sold on the day at Matthew’s Coffee House in Cleckheaton goes towards the trust.

On October 3, Brearleys Solicitors, 10 Market Place, Birstall, are having the public in from 10am.

Wyke Christadelphians are also hosting one in the Schoolroom next to the United Reformed Church in Westfield Lane from 10am-noon on October 4.
