Swimmer Gill’s great lengths

A WOMAN has swum the equivalent of the English channel, there and back to raise money for charity.

Gill Briggs, 65, swam 44 miles over three months in the pools at Dewsbury Sports Centre and the Galpharm Stadium in Huddersfield to raise money for spinal injuries charities Aspire and Shine.

Although sponsor money had not yet been counted, Mrs Briggs, of Liley Lane, Hopton, said she expected to have raised around £600 for each charity.

The retired midwife completed her final length at Dewsbury Sports Centre on Saturday December 3 and was greeted by her grandchildren who held up a banner and set off party poppers.
