Suspected bomb found in Cleckheaton

BOMB squad officers have been called to examine an unknown device found in a Cleckheaton house.

Police were called to reports of a burglary in Turnsteads Crescent this morning but found no evidence of a break in.

But a police spokeswoman said when they searched the property they found a firearm, offensive weapon and an ‘unknown device’ as well as cannabis plants.

The building and immediate area has been evacuated.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (bomb squad) have been contacted to examine the device.

A 45-year-old man has been arrested and inquiries are ongoing.

Police said that by 4pm the cordon had been lifted, allowing residents to return to their homes and the road along Turnsteads Avenue was reopened for use.
