Superstore is inspiring children to read books

A superstore in Dewsbury has marked another chapter in children's literacy with a special series of events.

The Asda store hosted a number of activities to mark World Book Day (Thursday 2 March) over the weekend – including meet and greet sessions.

Children had the chance to meet TV and film characters Iggle Piggle, Peppa Pig, SpongeBob SquarePants and the Minions.

The store also had its leadership team reading stories to children.

Community champion Sharon Kingswood said: “All our colleagues got dressed up as their favourite book character and some will be visiting schools in character during World Book Day.”

The store also invited local group Downs and Special Friends to take part in a pancake demonstration on Pancake Day.
