A popular Sky Sports pundit and former Dewsbury and Great Britain rugby league star is returning to his Yorkshire roots to give his support to the Mayor of Kirklees.
Mike “Stevo” Stephenson will be the main speaker at An Evening With Stevo, which is being held to raise money for the mayor’s charity Combat Stress.
The formal dinner will be held at Gomersal Park Hotel on April 14 from 7pm.
Mayor of Kirklees, Coun Andrew Palfreeman, said: “The rugby league family have already been very good at supporting my appeal, especially the Giants, Dewsbury Moor ARLFC and Sam Morton and Stevo at the Heritage Centre in Huddersfield.
“I’m delighted that Stevo has very generously offered his time to speak at the dinner, when a great evening should be guaranteed.”
Tickets are £29.95, including a three course meal, and are available from the hotel in Moor Lane, Gomersal, on 01274 869386.
Also doing their bit for the mayor’s appeal are nine colleagues who are marching 50 miles through Kirklees in just 12 hours in a bid to raise £5,000.
The team, made up of staff from Kirklees Council and Kirklees Active Leisure, will attempt to visit all the major war memorials in the borough, and each member is hoping for sponsorship of £300 from businesses or individuals.
The march will set off from Greenhead Park in Huddersfield at 9am on April 8 and will hopefully reach the finish line at the Galpharm Stadium by 9pm.
Potential sponsors can contact David Morby on 01484 234006 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
A second group of Combat Stress fundraisers will hold an auction at the Stadium Business and Leisure Complex at lunchtime.
Donations for the auction, which will be led by a local celebrity, are needed, and can be given to Diane Smith by calling 01484 234002 or emailing email@example.com.
Kirklees Active Leisure is also holding a series of boot camps on April 8 and 9, with people taking part asked to make a donation to the mayor’s charity. Details are at www.kirkleesactive.co.uk.
