The new Friends of Batley Station group worked in partnership with operator Northern Rail to tidy up the site and plant flowers and plants in new tubs around the station.

Coun Gwen Lowe (Lab) decided action had to be taken after meeting a foreign official at the station and feeling embarrassed about its run-down atmosphere.
She then founded the group with Labour parliamentary candidate Jo Cox.
At the first official meeting in March, nine people joined a committee which allowed the group to open a bank account and get projects going. Friends of Batley Station want arts groups, schools and any other volunteers to lend a hand with the ongoing spruce-up.
