St John’s teacher Nancy Jennings plans retirement road trip

A TEACHER is taking to the road as she celebrates her retirement.

For Nancy Jennings, last Friday marked not only the end of term but also the end of 42 years teaching in Dewsbury schools.

Nancy Jennings, 63, of Richmond Road, Commonside, Hanging Heaton, started teaching in 1970.

She has spent her entire career in this area, with her final 22 years at St John’s Infant School in Dewsbury.

Pat Missett, a member of the senior management team at the school, said Nancy would be sorely missed by both staff and pupils.

She said: “Her wealth of experience has made her an invaluable member of staff throughout her years here.

“She’s known by all the children and is remembered fondly by all her pupils, past and present. She’s just so caring and thoughtful so her last day will be very sad – we’ll all be sorry to see her go.”

Mrs Jennings and her husband Edward will embark on the trip of a lifetime this summer as they go on a road trip around the United States – and she is also looking forward to spending time with her first granddaughter, Mary.

Pat added: “Nancy used to be art co-ordinator so hopefully she’ll get the chance to indulge in something creative in her free time.”
