Spooky disco was just the trick!

Almost 100 children packed into a spooky disco organised by four schoolchildren in aid of Kirkwood Hospice.

Reece Walker, 15, Louis Taylor, 10, Joe Walker, 12, and Zak Oldroyd, eight, decided to do something special for the charity after seeing family and close friends affected by cancer.

And after totting up all the total, they were thrilled to find the party at Mirfield Constitutional Club had raised £1,836.

Joe and Reece’s mum, Jayne, said: “It was absolutely heaving. The limit with the children was 100 and I counted 97 through the door.”

Family, friends and strangers alike got behind the boys by organising raffles in their workplace or offering to help at the event.

When the original entertainer let them down, an appeal was issued via Facebook.

Smithy Entertainment and John Maverick Entertainment both stepped forward to DJ at the event free of charge.

Mrs Walker, of Wellhouse Close, Mirfield, said: “They were brilliant. They said they would come for two hours, and four-and-a-half hours later were begging them to stop!”

Mrs Walker will be selling sweetie trees for the hospice during its Christmas fair at Huddersfield Sports Centre on Saturday November 23.
