Sod-cutting ceremony at new fire station site
Chairman of the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority Coun Judith Hughes broke the ground at the site in Carlton Road last Friday.
The station, which will merge the existing stations on Carlinghow Lane, Batley, and Huddersfield Road, Dewsbury, is expected to be operational by October 2015. It will be staffed by 44 full-time firefighters and will house two fire engines. That is one less engine than the two stations currently have.
