Slideshow: Village invaded by scarecrows at festival

Where else would you be able to spot Superman, Bertie Bassett and Sean the Sheep all together? It has to be Hunsworth Scarecrow Festival.

A total of 30 scarecrows were scattered around for visitors to see at this year’s event with the winning exhibit being Superman, which was displayed flying through the air.

Second place was a very cheery and colourful Bertie Bassett and third was a mechanical fireman who squirted water at the spectators.

But the fun didn’t stop there. Hunsworth also held its own bake off with judges finding it difficult to judge the cakes that were displayed.

Helen Midgley eventually won them over with her signature cake.

The best Victoria sandwich cake was won by Gaynor Barton and the chocolate cake winner was Hannah Hall.

Money raised on the day will be put towards presents the Christmas lights and flowers and also festive presents for the children.
