Thousands of people visited Dewsbury town centre on Saturday for the annual event, which saw a range of food, drink and craft stalls in and around the town hall, the market and in Market Place.

Demonstrations included chorizo making with Coddy’s Farm, a cookery demo with Pam Mollan of Your Secret Gourmet and real ale tasting, jewellery making and gift wrapping. Children were entertained by street theatre duo Bread and Butter and made musical instruments from recycled material with fairandfunky.

The event, organised by Kirklees Council, aimed to showcase the town as a shopping destination. Coun Cathy Scott said: “The atmosphere both in and outside the town hall and market area was fantastic, despite the damp weather.

“I’m very pleased that the people of Dewsbury, and further afield, came into the town centre to support this fantastic event.

“Dewsbury is great place to shop, offering value for money and not forgetting in the run up to the festive season, is the home to one of the best markets in Europe.

“The festival provided an excellent opportunity to showcase our town.”
