Slideshow: Spen pays its respects on Remembrance Sunday

Spen honoured its fallen war heroes during a service on Remembrance Sunday.

After assembling opposite Cleckheaton’s town hall at 2pm, a parade which included Royal British Legion members marched off to Memorial Park, where wreaths were laid by dignitaries.

Reverend Brunel James later delivered a service at St John’s Church.

And on WWI’s centenary year, Spen remembers the 509 soldiers from the area who died during the conflict.

Many more died in the following years from wounds and the effects of gas.
