Slideshow: Crowds gather to see Batley lit up for Christmas
The countdown to Christmas kicked off in Batley at the weekend when crowds gathered for a spectacular seasonal lights switch-on.
Santa Claus, the Mayor of Kirklees Ken Smith and local country singer Jade Helliwell turned out to brighten up the town hall and Market Place just before 6pm on Saturday.
Townspeople were then treated to a firework finale after a day which featured the Pulse Radio roadshow’s host of musical acts, fairground and donkey rides, street entertainment and facepainting.
It was run by Kirklees Council in partnership with the Batley Business Association, and sponsored by Fox’s Biscuits.
