A MAN must pay £500 after he allowed people to smoke illegally in his shisha cafe.

Mohammed Khan, of Northstead in Ravensthorpe, was convicted following a trial at Batley and Dewsbury Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for permitting smoking in a smoke free place at Masti, formerly the Park Inn, in Bradford Road, Batley.

The court heard officers from Kirklees environmental health visited the cafe, which serves soft drinks and snacks, last July and found evidence of shisha smoking.

Mr Khan said people only smoked outside the premises.

He was fined £185 and ordered to pay £300 costs plus a victim surcharge of £15.
