Shaw Cross firm’s walk in tribute to ‘true gentleman’ Andrew Feather

Nearly 50 people are gearing up to climb three Yorkshire peaks in a single day as a tribute to Andrew Feather, the father of one and ‘true gentleman’ who worked at a Shaw Cross pharmaceuticals firm.

Mr Feather’s fellow colleagues at Halifax rugby union club are also taking part.

He was with rugby friends when the attack took place in a Halifax club in February.

A spokesman at Telstar Life Sciences UK Limited, where 38-year-old Mr Feather was financial controller, said: “This is a sad time for all of us. Andrew was very well thought of.”

The challenge takes place tomorrow when walkers will tackle Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent in a bid to raise at least £5,000 for Overgate Hospice in Mr Feather’s memory.

“It’s a team effort involving his colleagues here and friends from Halifax rugby union club,” said the Telstar spokesman.

“Everyone was keen to take part to show their respects. People from the firm went to his funeral in Halifax, which nearly 800 people attended.

“Andrew’s mum Jennifer worked as a director of the hospice and Andrew did a lot of fundraising for the charity, which was very close to his heart.

“Andrew was an extremely popular colleague. He was helpful, polite and good fun to be around. He always asked how you were and had a genuine interest in his colleagues’ wellbeing. The door to his office was always open. He was a true gentleman.”

She said all Telstar’s suppliers and business neighbours at Shaw Cross business park had been asked to support the 24-mile challenge.

Mr Feather was killed by a single punch during an unprovoked attack by Dale McLean, of Huddersfield, who jailed for five years and four months for unlawful killing.
