For comic Shappi Khorsandi life is “blissful and hectic”, and never more so when she’s on tour.

Having come to prominence in the mid to late 2000s after appearing on stand-up show Live at The Apollo and the famed panel show circuit, she is now back with her new apring tour, Because I’m Shappi, which she is presenting at Leeds City Varieties on April 30.

Speaking ahead of her visit to West Yorkshire, the energetic and bubbly Shappi reckons that this is her most enjoyable tour yet.

“It’s quite an upbeat and silly show really,” she explains. “It’s probably the most personal one I’ve ever done.”

Besides talking about the light side of life and motherhood, Iranian-born Shappi also touches on the rather nastier side of humanity as she delves into her confrontations with racism, and challenges it with her own sense of humour.

“I talk about an incident which happened to me just before Christmas where a guy on the Tube told me to go back to my own country. At the time I was quite shocked because I’d not heard anything like that since the 1980s. But I take the mick out of myself and my reaction, though I don’t want to give too much away.”

Often noted and in demand for her razor-sharp wit and charming enthusiasm, Shappi concludes that she is funniest “when off the cuff”.

So if you’re in the front row, you best be prepared!
