Sex offender murder accused latest

A man charged with the murder of a known sex offender has refused to appear in court for the second time.

David Anthony Mitchell is accused of killing 46-year-old Robert Edward Hind, who went missing from Dewsbury last week.

He was due to appear at Leeds Crown Court this morning (Thursday), but would not leave his cell at Armley Prison.

Police arrested Mitchell on Sunday and found human remains in Milnsbridge, Huddersfield, the following day.

The 46-year-old, of Manchester Road, Cowlersley, Huddersfield, was charged with Mr Hind’s murder on Tuesday.

He was sent to Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court later that day but refused to go into the courtroom.

Today he refused to leave his prison cell and the hearing took place before the Recorder of Leeds Peter Collier QC in his absence.

There was no application for bail.

Mitchell is due to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on January 10.

He is said to have murdered Mr Hind at Manchester Road in Cowlersley, Huddersfield, on December 11.

A post mortem examination found Mr Hind had died as the result of strangulation and head injuries.
