Scouting for leaders

A SCOUT group is looking for enthusiastic people to offer their time as leaders.

The 16th Dewsbury Scout Group has been meeting at Westborough Methodist Church since 1945.

Leader David Firth said: “The group is in a desperate situation with adult leaders. I’m short of adult help on a Wednesday night up at both the Scouts and Cubs, and the Beavers that meet on a Tuesday.”

At present, there is only one leader to oversee 17 beavers, one to oversee 10 scouts and two to look after 15 cubs.

Mr Firth said: “Ideally there should be two uniformed members per section and obviously that’s still at a minimum, because when you’ve got 20 kids and two adults, from a health and safety perspective, it’s not enough.

“Obviously we want adult help or we will not be able to continue, or we will struggle to continue.”

Mr Firth said he was looking for anyone with time and enthusiasm to volunteer as an adult leader.

He added: “The appeal is putting something back in to the community and helping the youth of the area.

“You don’t have to be anything special.”
