School staff skydive for brave pupil Bailey

Teachers from Castle Hall Academy went to Hibaldstow in Lincolnshire on Saturday to do a charity skydive.

They were raising money for pupil Bailey Coppack, who last week flew out to America for life-changing medical treatment.

Bailey, 12, has a benign brain tumour and will be in Oklahoma for the next two to three months as she undergoes pioneering proton therapy to shrink it.

In total, 10 people including Castle Hall staff and local HSBC employees did the skydive on Saturday and raised around £3,500 in sponsorship money.

Teacher Stephen Walker said: “It was fantastic.

“There were some very anxious-looking people, but it was for a good cause.

“Everyone said it was a fantastic experience and some of us are talking about doing it again.”

Two more staff are planning to do the sky dive this weekend.

Before she left for America, Bailey and her mum Lisa visited Castle Hall to collect a cheque for £3465.94 which staff and pupils had already raised for her trip.

The fundraising will continue tomorrow, when a 13-mile walk around the old Mirfield boundary is being held to support Bailey.

Registration for the walk is at 9am at the Old Colonial in Dunbottle Lane.
